Jewellery Aftercare
Even though metals (some more than others) are fairly hard wearing, as with any item that is worn it will wear with age especially those much-loved pieces. Rings worn next to each other will rub and wear down over time, chains can break when caught on things or tangle when not stored properly. However with a little care your jewellery should last a long time.
Here are a few tips to help make your jewellery last longer and look it's best.
- Make sure you put your jewellery on last when getting ready, after applying make-up and scent.
- Store your jewellery carefully in individual bags or boxes so it doesn't rub and risk getting tangled, scratched or marked.
- Ideally take off your jewellery when you do any physical activity, washing up or going swimming (both in a swimming pool or the sea) to avoid it being exposed to harsh chemicals or salt.
- Regularly clean your jewellery, either using a silver or gold cloth or gently washing the back of gemstone pieces (only hard stones) with warm soapy water and brushing with a soft brush. Some pieces like the silver Pod and Beaded range benefit from being dipped regularly in silver dip. This gets to the parts you can't reach with a cloth, but make sure you rinse it thoroughly afterwards in warm water.
- Matt pieces can be cleaned and rematted using a green washing up scourer and gently moving in a circular motion over the surface.
- We are more than happy to clean any Alice Robson piece if you bring it with you when you visit us in the workshop.
